The romantic hotel Kaštel is located in the centre of Crikvenica, next to a pebbled beach at the mouth of the river Dubračina.
It is situated next to the church by which the city Crikvenica was named. The hotel was opened in 1988, after it had been renovated and converted from a 14th century Paulist monastery.

History
In 1412, the Grand Duke Nikola Frankopan IV had a monastery built right next to the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which he donated to the Pauline Monks. The construction of the monastery is regarded as the beginning of Crikvenica, therefore the Grand Duke Nikola Frankopan IV is considered the founder of Crikvenica and the Virgin Mary its saint patron. The Deed of Gift, which the Grand Duke Nikola Frankopan IV issued on the 14th of August 1412, is considered the oldest written testament of Crikvenica's name and this date has been declared as Crikvenica Day.
